Pretty cool, huh? We got to sit in an Indy car and get our picture taken.
Indianapolis in the capitol of Indiana, so we had to visit the State House. Since it's Memorial Day, everything was closed, so we didn't see the inside. It's really huge - fills a complete square block, with nice park-like grounds surrounding it.
John and Flat Merary had fun running up and down the steps.
About a block away from the State House is this huge monument dedicated to the Indiana volunteers who fought in the Civil War. You can't really tell from this photo, but there are Civil War relics and depictions of different scenes from the war all the way around it. And there is a water fall in the front, and another one in the back. It's dead square in the center of down town Indianapolis, and the street circles around it. Pretty awesome.
Today we left Indianapolis and headed North. We drove out of Indiana and into Michigan, taking the small country roads as much as possible, just taking our time and enjoying the scenery. So far Michigan is much like Indiana and Ohio, lots of farm houses and barns, and fields that are either still sporting stubble from last year's crops, are bare and ready to be planted, or are planted with wheat that is still green. And we saw some pastures with cows, horses or sheep grazing. BUT . . . the landscape is dotted with little lakes and streams everywhere. In just the short time we have been in Michigan, we have probably seen a dozen small lakes. Really pretty.
Right now we are in Livonia, which is a suburb of Detroit. Tomorrow I think we are going to check out the Henry Ford Museum, which John says will totally blow me away. Stay tuned . . .
I saw who really was in the indy car and it wasn't John :) The area sounds so pretty, I can't wait to see ALL your pics not just the few you are posting here.
